Sarah finds herself clinging for life aboard a small boat that is being tossed about by a raging storm in the Flores Sea. Sarah is an attractive young lady and a leading authority on the study of the great apes but she is questioning her own sanity for having taken this journey. This is one of many trips Sarah has made to assist her academic mentor but this trip takes a decidedly wrong turn when the boat's engine dies forcing her and her guides to seek shelter on a small, uncharted island in the Flores Sea.

As the guides repair the motor of their stranded boat, Sarah wanders off from the beach, heading to the woods to observe the local bird population. While she is sitting in the woods she suddenly feels as if she is being watched. Sarah is not easily scared, since she has spent many days alone in the wild while observing her beloved chimps and gorillas. But this experience is entirely different to her and she begins to feels a strange presence closing in about her. Then she actually hears the presence! Strange human-like voices, much like the mumbling's of the damned, begin to fill her ears coming from all directions. Sarah is terrified and paralyzed with fear as they begin to surround her. In the distance Sarah can hear the guides frantically searching for her but they are too late to rescue...

The Reviews Are In:

I've been listening to podcasts for quite some time and think this is one of the best ones out there. Not only are the characters and plot believable, but the story itself is read beautifully. I've really enjoyed listening to it.

I think you have a wonderful narrative voice!

And when will the sequel be available? I am so curious!

Warning! Adult themes, violence, some sexuality and adult language, not suitable for the young, feint of heart or for most authority figures.

The good folks at Podiobooks.com are hosting the Flores Girl Podcast and the even better news is that you can download the entire podcast of the novel for free. The podcast is narrated by the author and contains an original sound score and sound effects.

So many of you are shaking your heads and are saying what is a Podcast? Well, do you own an iPod or MP3 player? Podcast is derived from the words iPod and broadcasting. Typically a podcast is a narration by the author of the novel (or a hired gun) created in a MP3 format for playback on iPods, MP3 players and almost all computers or CD players manufactured during the past 5 years. It could be a novel, news commentary or comedy show, whatever. In its simplest form, it’s some bozo with a microphone and a computer. You download the file and play it back later at your own discretion. Typically with a novel you record the book chapter by chapter and release in a serialized format every week. You use a piece of software called an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeder to track the new releases for you automatically. This is a new medium and was embraced early on by such noted authors as Stephen King.

Here’s how to listen and you get to learn about Podcasting and RSS feeds as well:

1. Go to http://www.podioooks.com. The direct link to the Flores Girl podcast at Podiobooks is: http://www.podiobooks.com/podiobooks/book.php?ID=74.

2. Signup and login to create an account. It costs nothing and then confirm your free subscription.

3. This is the tricky part. To download the actual MP3 file you need an RSS feeder. If you own an iPod you may have for example iTunes already installed on your computer. If not download a copy of Juice from the icon on the page.

4. RSS FeedClick on the RSS symbol (says RSS 2.0 feed when you pass over it) and click ok to save the url link. Open your installed RSS feeder and paste the link to in the new subscriptions area. It will begin to download the MP3. You can play the file typically by right clicking it or by playing it directly from the directory you downloaded it to. When you open that RSS feeder it will automatically check and download new episodes from Flores Girl. From there you can play it back on your computer, or transfer it to your MP3 player for later playback. You know when you are exercising, walking or really trying hard to fall asleep!

If you are still using a dial up modem for the Internet keep in mind these files are up to 20 megabytes in size so feel free to go out and raise a small family before the download is complete.

If you have a problem either get a teenager to help you out or email me and I’ll help you out. You can reach me at: ebertel@floresgirl.com

And again your cost for this great listen: nothing! There are other great books on the site as well but no cheating and go straight for Flores Girl!!
